3rd Award Rules and Judging Guidelines

Prizes

  • One “Feng Zikai Award Winner”: The award winner will receive US$20,000 grant and an award trophy. Should the author and the illustrator be different, the grant will be shared equally. The organizer will purchase 3,000 copies of the award winner to schools for education and reading promotion.
  • Four “Feng Zikai Honor Books” (the actual number will be based on the quality of entries): Each winner will receive US$5,000 grant and an award trophy.

Eligibility and Rules

  •  The book must be Chinese children's picture book with its first publication between January 2011 and December 2012 (according to the copyright page).
  •  The book must be originally written in Chinese language, and its first publication must be in Chinese language. There is, however, no limit in the creator's nationality.
  •  There is no limit in the book's theme and category, yet the content and style should be eligible for children aged 3-12.Although the theme and genre of entries are unrestricted, the content and format shall be suitable for children aged 3 to 12.
  •  The book must not plagiarize or infringe copyright from others. Once proven, the book will be disqualified and rescinded of awards (if any). The entrant will bear legal responsibilities, and indemnify all the loss brought to the organizer.
  • The organizer possesses the right to use awarded entries'covers and contents, such as texts and illustrations, for the promotion of awards and related events (including but not limited to exhibitions).

Judging Criteria

  • The content and style are eligible for children aged 3-12.
  • The content is interesting and creative with knowledge accurately conveyed. Illustrations in informative picture books must be precise and clear.
  • The artistic style is mature, and the overall visual effect is aesthetically satisfying.
  • The words and illustrations can appropriately present and interpret the theme, plot, idea, characters, settings, and atmosphere. There is also satisfying synergy between text and illustration.
  • In addition to the illustration, other elements that may influence the overall effect will also be taken into consideration, including font, layout design, printing, and binding.
  • The book encourages innovation, and is inspirational.

Assessment

  •  The organizer will form a professional panel of judges that will assess entries according to the award criteria.
  •  The organizer will announce the result of The Third Feng Zikai Chinese Children's Book Award in August 2013.
  •  The organizer reserves the final decision should there be controversies.

  •  Application opens on January 01, 2013 and close on February 28, 2013 (the postmark served as proof).
  •  Copies of entry: 5 copies or sets (all of which will be reserved by the organizer after the assessment)
