Liu Xuyuan
China children's literature critic, writer and member of Chinese Writers Association
Liu Xuyuan, whose ancestral hometown is in Zhejiang, was born in 1951 and currently lives in Shanghai. He was an editor of Wenhui Monthly, associate-editor-in-chief of Wenhui Book Review, and chief editor of Pen – a Wenhui News supplement. His research interests focus on the theory of children's literature, contemporary Chinese literature, and the history of Chinese thought. He is the author of several books, including academic work about contemporary literature: Analysis of Zhou Zuoren and His work, theory works about children's literature: The Three Motives of Children's Literature and The Literary Mind and the Carving of Tigers, collection of theses: Love in Literature (co-authored by Song Yongyi), and prose works: Escape from the Strange Circle, The Taste of Life, A Decent Life, You and Your Granny Smith Apple, Bitter Tea and Red Candles, and more. He is also the author of collections of book reviews, including The Invisible Pleasure, A Book in Winter Night – Liu Xuyuan's Book Reviews, Prose at the Bridge, To See Mountains as Mountains, to See Water as Water, and Spontaneous Notes of Reading. Liu Xuyuan's recent publications draw stronger responses from academic circles and readers: a theoretical work the about history of contemporary prose: The Origin of Contemporary Prose, dialogues with Li Zehou: Is It Time for Chinese Philosophy to Be on Stage?, How Chinese Philosophy Shows Itself?, Speculative Philosophy of Children's Literature, and A Brief History of Chinese Children's Literature (1916-1977), and an annotated compilation: Zhou Zuoren's Critique on Children's Literature.
