The 8th FZK Chinese Children's Picture Award Application Guide

Prizes

  • One “Best Chinese Children's Picture Book Award”: The award winner will receive US$20,000 along with a trophy. Should the author and the illustrator be different persons, the prize money will be shared equally. The organizer will purchase 1,000 copies of the award winning book to schools for education and reading promotion purposes.
  • Four “Outstanding Chinese Children's Picture Book Awards” : The award winners will each receive US$5,000 along with a trophy. Should the author and the illustrator be different persons, the prize money will be shared equally.The organizer will purchase 500 copies of each award winning book to schools for education and reading promotion purposes.

*The actual number will be based on the quality of entries

Eligibility and Rules

  • The picture book must be first published between January 01, 2021 and December 31, 2022 (according to the copyright page).
  • The book must be originally written in Chinese and first published in Chinese. There is, however, no limitation in the creator's nationality or region.
  • There is no limitation in the book's theme and category, yet the content and style should be eligible for children aged between 3 to 12.
  • The book must not plagiarize or infringe the copyright from others. If plagiarism is proven, the entry will be disqualified and the award, if any, will be rescinded. The entrant shall bear legal responsibilities and indemnify from all losses and liabilities brought to the Award Committee.
  • By entering entrants grand the Award Committee the right and royalty-free license to use the covers and contents, such as texts and illustrations, for the promotion of the Award and related activities, including but not limited to exhibitions or publications.

Judging Criteria

  • The content and style are eligible for children aged between 3 to 12.
  • The content is interesting and creative with knowledge accurately conveyed. Illustrations in informative picture books must be precise and clear.
  • The artistic style is mature, and the overall visual effect is aesthetically satisfying.
  • The words and illustrations can appropriately present and interpret the theme, plot, idea, characters, settings, and atmosphere. The book shows satisfying synergy between text and illustration.
  • In addition to the illustration, other elements that may influence the overall effect will also be taken into consideration, they include font, layout design, printing, and binding.
  • The book encourages innovation, and is inspirational.

Assessment

  • The Award Committee will form a professional panel of judges that will assess the entries in a meeting according to the award criteria.
  • The Award Committee will announce the result of The 8th Feng Zikai Chinese Children's Book Award in September 2023.
  • The Award Committee reserves the right not to award prizes if the quality of entries falls below the required standard.
  • The Award Committee reserves the final decision should there be controversies.

How to Apply

  • Application opens on January 02, 2023 and close on February 28, 2023 (the postmark served as proof).
  • Copies of entry: 8 copies or sets (all of which will be reserved by the organizer after the assessment)
