Hsu Su-Hsia
Professor in the Department of Arts and Design at the National Hsinchu University of Education and picture book creator
Hsu Su-Hsia completed her doctoral degree in art at the Université des Sciences Humaines de Strasbourg, France and is currently a professor in the Department of Arts and Design at the National Hsinchu University of Education. Her watercolor and illustration works were selected to be used as greeting cards by The United Nations Children's Fund. Hsu has also held a number of solo exhibitions in Taiwan and France. Besides fine art teaching and creation, she devotes herself to several aspects of picture books, such as creations, research and critiques, book review as well as translation, and pays particular attention to the study and practice of image characteristics and artistic expression in picture books. Hsu was the first Taiwanese artist to be nominated at the Bologna Children's Book Fair (in 1989). Her recent picture books include Tik-a-Tok, Lee Tze-Fan—In pursuit of a beautiful life, Mom, It's Sunshine Outside. These works received various honors, including the Chinatimes Open-Book Award, Recommended Children's Book by Government Information Office, and Best Children's Book – United Daily News Reader Award.
