Judge's comment

This picture book can be read as well as explored. We can read the unique ambiance in Jiangnan's water town. We can explore the morning market with the boy in red at the turn of pages. The full-page spreads, enriched setting, and multiple characters present the hustle and bustle of the morning market. Brief texts are mostly conversations expressive of humane warmth and beauty. The illustrator focuses on the depiction of meaning, and illustrates with freehand brushwork instead of realistic description. If there could be more depiction on details that children concern, the repeated reading and detail identification would be more enjoyable.
